KBW | THE MAGICAL POTION “RESTORE”

A TRULY AMAZING GUT HEALTH SUPPLEMENT

Introducing the magical potion known as “Restore” and how it can save the world, one gut at a time.

Restore is probably the most complex gut health supplement I’ve ever attempted to define.

Restore has the ability to:

  1. Enhance communication networks between beneficial bacteria in your microbiome
  2. Increase mental clarity and improve immune function
  3. Mitigate the damage of glyphosate
  4. And heal separated tight junctions

…..all in ONE product that is essentially a bottle of really, really, really, old dirt.

Say what?

old dirt

Let’s start with what Restore is and is not.

It is not a probiotic or a prebiotic as one might initially assume when hearing the term “microbiome”.

It is a soil-derived and carbon-rich alkaline liquid comprised of Terrahydrate. Terrahydrate is a combination of aqueous humic substances, trace minerals, and amino acid complexes (aka old dirt)....

KBW | BIOHACKING

HOW TO ACHIEVE YOUR OPTIMAL HEALTH

Do you want to kick ass at life? I mean, really take it up a notch and stop just feeling ok or good and feel amazing? Then it’s time to start biohacking.

What is biohacking?

It is the practice of using science and epigenetics to transform your body using food, thoughts, movement, light, and more.

To truly optimize your health and increase energy, longevity, and productivity along with decreasing disease, you must first and foremost lay the foundation. Just like you can’t build an impressive skyscraper without a solid foundation, you can't build impressive health, energy, vitality, and resiliency without laying the foundations for said health.

Basic good health hygiene is that foundation.

If you’re not sure where to start for that, check out my post here on some key areas, including sleep, movement, vegetables, and more: “Why Health Coaches Don’t Count Calories, and What They Do Count.”

KBW | HOW’S YOUR SLEEP? CHANCES ARE, IT’S NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

Sleep. It’s something we all do, but do we get enough? Research has given us an unequivocal answer of NO to that question. As measured by Gallup here, the average American today sleeps 6.8 hours, a far cry from the 9 hours averaged in 1910. Most experts agree that for optimal health, at least 7-8 hours per night are necessary.

The Huffington Post does a good job here showing us exactly what happens when we don’t sleep enough, and it’s not pretty. Side effect range from an increase in heart disease risk to lowered immune system, increased diabetes risk, weight gain, and more.

The reasons why we don’t sleep well are many, but they all essentially have the same root cause. Our bodies were designed for a different sleep environment than what we have today. It appears that lasting evolutionary change takes about one million years. However, if you go back a mere 200 years to the whole Oregon Trail (ps-remember that computer...

KBW | DO YOU HAVE SIBO? FIND OUT WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT!

DO YOU HAVE SIBO? FIND OUT WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT!

Do you have pain, gas, or bloating after meals? Is this problem worse when you have more carbs with your meals? These are the hallmark symptoms of SIBO, small intestinal bacterial overgrowth.

Some other common symptoms with SIBO are diarrhea or constipation, depending on which type of bacteria you have; food sensitivities from damaged GI tract; fatigue, anxiety, depression, and brain fog from inflammatory cytokines being released; nausea from a slow stomach emptying; anemia from low ferritin and iron due to malabsorption; acne, interstitial cystitis and MORE!.

I’m seeing this issue more and more in my practice, yet many people still do not know what it is. I had a conversation recently with a woman who said, “Oh yes, I’ve heard of SIBO, and I have all the symptoms, but I dismissed it as another “fad diagnosis,” like candida overgrowth.” After we both had a brief chuckle, then I went on to...

KBW | Why you can't outwork a bad diet: and what to do instead for fat loss

WHY YOU CAN’T OUTWORK A BAD DIET

Exercise is unbelievably important for health and wellness ….but it can’t overcome a bad diet.

pinned post-it note that says change your bad habits

Exercise increases your BDNF (brain-derived neurotropic factor), which helps regenerate your brain, it increases your memory and even helps stave off neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's. (1) Exercise also releases key neurotransmitters and has been proven to reduce depression and anxiety and help you sleep. (2) All of these benefits will help you live better, which is a good thing because exercise also helps you live LONGER. The list goes on and on. To read more benefits of strength training in particular, check out this guest post by personal trainer Elizabeth Hills. The short version on the importance of exercise is this:

You should absolutely exercise, but doing it solely to lose weight is a fool's errand.

The old “calories in, calories out” diet paradigm is dead. Pretty much every Dr tells their...

KBW | WHAT IS AN MTHFR SNP AND WHY IS EVERYONE TALKING ABOUT IT?

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE MTHFR SNP?

What exactly is an MTHFR snp, and why on earth is everyone talking about it? I feel compelled to write a post on this because, quite frankly, I’m frustrated with the information that’s out there right now on this topic.

MTHFR is short for methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase, and it is a single nucleotide polymorphism, also known as an snp (pronounced “snip”) but sometimes called a “mutation.” This last term is far more scary and far less accurate than the one I’ll use, SNP.

DNA and genes making up a man

An MTHFR snp can cause problems with methylation and enzyme production, and it’s estimated that 20-50% of the general population carries some variation of it, with some variations being more problematic and severe than others. Researchers have found that the prevalence of diseases such as ADHD, atherosclerosis, Alzheimer’s, autoimmune disorders, and autism are higher in those with a MTHFR snp. Clearly,...

KBW | BENEFITS OF STRENGTH TRAINING – GUEST WRITTEN BY ELIZABETH HILLS

 BENEFITS OF STRENGTH TRAINING

Guest Post by Elizabeth Hills

Would you like to burn more calories while you sleep?  Feel and look younger?  Resist disease?  Be happier?  Live with less pain?

woman working out and lifting weights outside

Strength training gives you all of these benefits and more.  It is obvious that regular strength training results in strong, toned muscles.  But exercise that involves resistance is not just for bodybuilders with bulging biceps.  Strength training is a crucial, often overlooked, component of anyone’s health and wellness plan.  If you are nervous or unsure about how to begin strength training, rest assured there are many forms of resistance exercise, such as functional bodyweight exercises, TRX Suspension Trainers, kettlebells, and barbells.  There is truly something for everyone.  If you are already strength training but feel you have reached a plateau, now may be the time to change up your routine and try a...

KBW | WAS THAT “CAGE FREE” CHICKEN HAPPY?

 WAS THAT “CAGE-FREE” CHICKEN HAPPY?

Have you ever seen the Portlandia episode where Portland restaurant diners care SO much about the quality of the meat they’re about to order that they ask the waiter not only if it was grass-fed and free range but was it pet often talked to and, most importantly…was it happy??

They end up leaving the restaurant to drive to the farm where it was raised to investigate for themselves. A bit much? Maybe. But short of driving around to farms and interviewing farmers, what is a consumer supposed to do when presented with labels like cage-free, pastured and free-range? What’s the difference? Which one is better? And why is it so confusing?

It’s confusing because food companies are catching on to the fact that consumers want to be healthy. To turn a profit, these companies work hard to capitalize on that “healthy” desire, some in sincere efforts and some in...

KBW | WHY HEALTH COACHES DON’T COUNT CALORIES – AND WHAT THEY DO COUNT

SETTING THE RIGHT HEALTH GOALS FOR YOU

Health coaches, the good ones at least, don’t count calories. They know a secret I want to share with you today. The secret is this: the old “calories in, calories out” paradigm is DEAD, and that very important message is slowly but surely making its way to mainstream media.

The problem is the SLOWLY part, which means that by the time this message finally makes it into the medical school curriculum, it’ll be too late to do you much good. An example of this lag in the times in action is my sweet friend’s depressing experience with her doctors. She eats a fairly healthy, nutritionally sound diet, does not indulge in fried foods or sweets, yet she has steadily gained weight year after year, and is currently about 30 lbs up. She went to her Dr who told her to “try to eat better” (she was already) and then she went to an endocrinologist for hormone tests but was told to “lay off the...

KBW | THE PERFECT KETO COFFEE – BEYOND THE BUTTER

THE PERFECT KETO COFFEE – BEYOND THE BUTTER

"Bulletproof" coffee, aka butter coffee, aka Keto Coffee, hit the scene when Dave Asprey, founder of the Bulletproof empire, first posted it to his blog in 2009, and it’s gained a cult-like following ever since.

Why? Because it really truly does work. By work, I mean it: increases your energy, sustains higher energy levels with no crash, produces ketones for your body to use as fuel, and satiates hunger.

Supposedly, it all began when a freezing cold and exhausted Dave was offered tea chock full of yak butter by monks he encountered hiking in Tibet. It gave him the best energy boost one could imagine, so when he returned home, he began experimenting with adding grass-fed butter to his own coffee. Butter coffee has since evolved into somewhat of an art form over the years, and I’d like to tell you all the little secrets and intricacies so you can rock your own today!

Step 1:
